Chapter Seven:  On The Method Of Sending Blessings Upon Our Master The Messenger of Allah (Allah Bless Him And Give Him Peace)

Hadith Thirty One: From Kab bin Ujrah (Allah be pleased with him) said:  The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) came out to us and we said:  O Messenger of Allah, we have learnt how to send peace upon you, but how to we send blessings upon you?
He (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: Say: O Allah send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as you sent blessings upon Ibrahim. You are the praiseworthy, glorious.  O Allah send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as you sent blessings upon the family of Ibrahim, you are the praiseworthy glorious.

Agreed upon

Hadith Thirty Two:
From Abdullah bin Masud (Allah be pleased with him) said:  The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) taught me the tashahud- my hand being between his two hands- in the manner he would teach me a chapter of the Quran:  Greetings are for Allah, all prayers and good deeds are for Him. Peace be upon you O Prophet.  Peace be upon us and all of Allah’s righteous servants.  I bear witness that there is no god except Allah and I bear witness that Muhammad is his servant and Messenger.

And in a wording: If one one of you sit in the prayer then he should say:  ‘Greetings are for Allah…’  and it is mentioned in it: For if you do this you will have greeted every righteous servant in the heavans and the earth.

And in it is: The he can choose to supplicate with what he wishes.

Agreed upon

Sheikh Taqi al-Din Ibn Daqiq al-Eid said:  It is said that it is the most authentic of what is reported regarding tashahud.

And in ‘al-Mabsut’ from Khusayf (Allah be pleased with him) said:  I saw the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) in a dream, I said to him:  O Messenger of Allah, there is much disagreement regarding the tashahud, which do you order me to take/practice?

He (Allah bless him and give him peace) said:  The Tashahud of Ibn Masud.

Hadith Thirty Three: From Abdullah bin Abbas (Allah be pleased with both of them) said: We said:  O Messenger of Allah, we have learnt how to send peace upon you, how do we send blessings upon you?
He said:  O Allah send blessings upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you sent blessings upon Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, you are praiseworthy, glorious. [send mercy upon Muhammad and the family of Muhammad, as you had mercy upon the family of Ibrahim, you are the Praisewirthy, Glorious] Send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as you blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim, you are the praiseworthy, glorious.

Reported by Ibn Jarir with his chain.

Other than this hadith has been reported, and there are many wordings for it other than this wording.

Hadith Thirty Four: From Ibn Masud al-Ansari (Allah be pleased with him) said:  A man came and sat infront of the Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) whilst we were with him.  He said:  O Messenger of Allah, as for sending peace upon you, we have learnt it. How do we send blessings upon you when we send blessings upon you in our prayer, Allah send blessings upon you  He said:  The Prophet (Allah bless him and give him peace) was silent to the point that that we weished that the man had not asked him the question.
He then said:  When you wish to send blessings upon me say:  O Allah send blessings upon Muhammad the unlettered Prophet, and upon the family of Muhammad, as you send blessings upon Ibrahim and family of Ibrahim.  And send blessings upon Muhammad and upon the family of Muhammad, as you blessed Ibrahim and the family of Ibrahim.  And the sending of peace is as you know/learnt.

And it is reported:  As you have know/learnt…meaning the sending of peace previously (mentioned) in the Tashahud of Ibn Masud which is:  Peace be upon you O Prophet and the mercy of Allah and His blessings.

Reported by Imam Ahmad, Ibn Khuzaimah and al-Hakim in his ‘Sahih’.

Hadith Thirty Five: From Abu Humaid al-Saidi (Allah be pleased with him) that they said:  O Messenger of Allah, how do we send blessings upon you?  The Messenger of Allah (Allah bless him and give him peace) said: Say: O Allah send blessings upon Muhammad and his wives and family, as you sent blessings upon Ibrahim.  Send blessings upon Muhammad and his wives and family, as you blessed Ibrahim, you are the Praiseworthy, Glorious.

It is Sahih, agreed upon.
